Like a combustion engine, the electric car battery is the most crucial component in terms of an electric car’s performance and competitiveness. That’s why BMW set out to develop adequate competencies years ago, including in the field of battery cell technology.

BMW electric car battery life cycle

Batteries with an impressive service life.

The durability of BMW electric car batteries is demonstrated by our pioneering electric car, the BMW i3. We have been observing the ageing process of its electric car battery since 2013. Even when developing the BMW i3, we conducted elaborate tests to ensure its capabilities in terms of driving and charging. As a result of increasing battery sizes and technological advancements, our newer BMW electric car batteries offer improved conditions for a longer service life and higher performance.

Used BMW electric cars Battery Health Quick Report

The Battery Health Quick Report determines the capacity.

The range and charging performance of an electric car battery decline over time in line with a normal ageing process. Prioritising slow charging conserves the electric car battery. The Battery Health Quick Report is a test procedure that is conducted on the battery of every used BMW Premium Selection vehicle.

BMW used electric cars battery status

This offers full transparency regarding the condition of the battery.

The Battery Health Quick Report serves to determine the current state of health (SoH) of the electric car battery. The SoH value defines the maximum energy capacity of a used electric car battery, compared to the original condition of a new battery. This rapid evaluation takes less than an hour. It can verify the performance and condition of an electric car battery. There are measures you can take yourself: a conservative driving style and careful handling will give your electric car battery the longest possible service life. If you have any questions regarding the residual capacity, please contact your Service Partner.

Used BMW electric cars extended battery warranty

Extended warranty for the electric car battery.

You will also receive an extended warranty for the battery of a BMW electric car, in addition to the services outlined in the Certificate of Quality. This covers defects such as failure of the battery, is valid for a maximum mileage of 160,000 km, and expires 8 years after the initial registration, at the latest. This applies to our latest generation of BMW electric cars, for example, such as the BMW iX or the BMW i5.

[1] Official data for fuel consumption, CO2 emissions, power consumption and electric range was determined in accordance with the prescribed measuring procedure and corresponds to European Regulation (EC) 715/2007 in the applicable version. For ranges, data determined as per WLTP takes into account any optional equipment (available on the German market in this case). For vehicles that have been newly type approved since 1 January 2021, only the official data according to WLTP exists. In addition, NEDC values are deleted from the certificates of conformity as of 1 January 2023 by EC regulation 2022/195. For more information about NEDC and WLTP measuring procedures visit www.bmw.com/wltp

Further information about fuel consumption and official model-specific CO2 emissions of new passenger cars can be found in the "Guideline for fuel consumption, CO2 emissions and electric power consumption for new passenger cars", available free of charge at all points of sale, at the Deutsche Automobil Treuhand GmbH (DAT), Hellmuth-Hirth-Str. 1, 73760 Ostfildern-Scharnhausen, Germany, and under https://www.dat.de/co2/.

[2] Range depends on various factors, in particular: individual driving style, route characteristics, outside temperature, heating/air conditioning, pre-conditioning.

[3] The charging performance depends on the state of charge, ambient temperature, individual driving profile and use of auxiliary consumers. The ranges shown are based on the WLTP best case. The charging times apply to ambient temperatures of 23 degrees Celsius after a preceding drive and may differ depending on the usage behaviour.

[4] The recharged range in km after 10 minutes of High-Power-Charging was determined according to DIN70080 in the WLTP cycle. It depends on the vehicle equipment, individual driving profile, ambient temperature, charging status and the use of additional consumers.
