The full colour BMW Head-Up Display with M-specific display projects information relevant to driving directly into the driver's field of vision.

With the press of a button, the driver can switch to the sportier M-specific display. Along with a digital speedometer, it also shows the selected gear and a multi-coloured rpm symbol including shift lights. Navigation instructions, Speed Limit Info including no-overtaking indicator and infotainment tips are also shown. Projections at eye-height mean that the driver can keep his or her gaze on the road. The results can be seen in the improved safety and unique driving experience.

The optional Driving Assist function combines the camera-based systems Lane Departure Warning and Approach and Pedestrian Warning with the City Brake Activation.

The Lane Departure Warning detects lane markings and alerts the driver of an unintentional lane change at speeds above approx. 70 km/h by means of vibrations in the steering wheel and a visual warning in the instrument cluster. The warning is not activated when the lane change is deliberate, i.e. when the indicator is turned on.

While the Approach Warning with City Brake Activation detects vehicles, the Pedestrian Warning with City Brake Activation reacts to pedestrians. When there is a risk of collision, the Approach Warning triggers a two-stage warning. First, a symbol in the instrument cluster lights up, followed by an acoustic alarm. The Pedestrian Warning triggers a single-stage warning in the event of an acute risk of collision. If the system warns of a potential collision, the brakes are simultaneously preconditioned for a faster response. In the event of an emergency, the system applies the brakes.

With the Speed Limit Info (optional) including no-overtaking indicator you can put safety first. It shows the current speed limit in the instrument cluster, as well as information regarding no-overtaking zones.

This is shown on the Info Display in the instrument cluster or in the Head-Up Display. A special camera detects the relevant traffic signs. This information is processed by a control unit along with data from the navigation system. Features including the rain sensor are also incorporated, so variable speed limits in specific instances are also registered (for example, under wet conditions or at certain times of day). This means the driver will always be well informed about the road ahead.

The iDrive Touch Controller enables the iDrive system to be conveniently operated with a single hand.

Thanks to the touchpad integrated into the Controller, it is easy to enter information such as destinations for the navigation system in handwriting. It can also be used to access a wide range of functions and settings as well as for scrolling through lists. Operation is effortless and intuitive based on one's sense of touch. This makes life especially easy for the driver since it keeps distraction from traffic to an absolute minimum. All functions operated using the Controller can be conveniently viewed in the Control Display.

With Anti-dazzle High-Beam Assist (only available with Adaptive LED Headlights or Adaptive Headlights), night driving is safer and more comfortable.

It provides excellent visibility in the dark without dazzling other drivers. The system detects other road-users and selectively excludes them from the high-beam headlight distribution. Beam ranges of over 400 m ensure early detection of risks and improved directional tracking. The features Adaptive LED Headlights or Adaptive Headlights are required for the Anti-dazzle High-Beam Assist.

The Park Assist makes parallel parking easier. When the system is activated and the car is driving slowly (below 35 km/h), it will measure any parking gaps the car passes.

When a large enough gap has been found, the driver simply switches on the turn indicator and the Park Assist will do the steering, while the driver continues to operate the accelerator, gears and brakes. The system also emits acoustic signals and gives instructions in the Control Display. So the driver can stay relaxed and enjoy greater safety while parking.

Enjoy a clear view in the area around your vehicle when manoeuvring into parking spaces and at road exits with Park Distance Control, Surround View and Rear View Camera.

Park Distance Control (PDC) at the front and rear allows you to park safely and comfortably thanks to optical and acoustic signals.

Surround View shows your vehicle in the Control Display with the aid of a projection from above. The accompanying Side View system guarantees a better overview when visibility is poor at road exits.

The Rear View Camera provides welcome support when you are reversing into parking spaces at speeds of less than 20 km/h.

The Active Protection feature (optional) is the BMW preventive occupant protection system.

Active Protection warns the driver if it detects signs of tiredness. Safety belts are pretensioned in critical situations, electric seats are returned to upright positions and the windows and sliding roof are closed. After an accident occurs, the system is able to brake the vehicle to a stop.
