ENDLESS ADDED VALUE.
Sustainability isn't just a word for BMW i. It's the highest guiding principle. Therefore, the entire life cycle of the BMW i3 is structured around the principle of maximum resource conservation and sustainability.
DEVELOPMENT.
The entire vehicle design was developed for electric mobility, from the ground up. While innovative aerodynamic measures reduce air resistance and energy consumption, sustainable and recycled materials protect the environment and replace traditional materials such as plastics.
PRODUCTION.
Exceedingly sustainable: The carbon fibres used for the BMW i3 are manufactured entirely with hydroelectric power. Manufacturing at the BMW plant in Leipzig, Germany, is powered entirely with wind energy. And, compared to the other BMW models, only half of the energy needed for production is required.
USE.
With the BMW i3, you will drive without emissions, noise, or odours. This reduces the air pollution in cities. Even more importantly, it's easy to charge with "green energy" or to generate energy with your own solar panels. The ECO PRO mode increases range and reduces energy consumption.
RECYCLING.
The BMW i3 is 95% recyclable. The battery module can be re-used as a storage receptacle for solar energy. And the surplus carbon fibres can be returned to the production process.
MATERIALS WITH A FUTURE.
ELEMENTS MADE OF NATURAL FIBRES.
Visibly sustainable: The extensive use of kenaf replaces petroleum-based plastics and reduces the weight of the BMW i3, because the kenaf fibres are up to 30% lighter than conventional material. They are harvested from malva plants, which convert CO2 into oxygen at an above-average rate.
SEATS MADE OF 40% VIRGIN WOOL.
Certified virgin wool is a renewable resource with a high level of comfort which comprises up to 40% of the seat coverings in the interior design Lodge. The breathable wool blend regulates the temperature between the body and the seat surface in such a way that the seat remains cool at high temperatures.
INTERIOR TRIMS MADE OF EUCALYPTUS WOOD.
Eucalyptus has a natural silky grip and a natural pore structure, and therefore, it requires about 90% less surface processing than conventional types of wood. The eucalyptus wood used in the interior trim comes from plantations that are certified by the Forest Stweardship Council (FSC), which ensures sustainable forestry practices.
100% OLIVE LEAF-TANNED LEATHER.
The leather in the BMW i3 is tanned entirely with the natural extract of olive leaves in an environmentally friendly manner. This allows the leather to retain its natural shine and its temperature-balancing character. In addition, after the olive harvest, the olive leaves are left as waste; they can be sensibly used for this purpose.
GREEN ENERGY.
The BMW i3 makes it very easy for you to implement sustainability into your everyday life. When it's being driven, it emits no emissions. This reduces the air pollution in cities and provides you with more fresh air to breathe. If you fill up with "green energy" or generate your own energy using solar cells, you can consistently be out and about without emissions. ECO PRO mode increases the range and generally reduces energy consumption.

The driving range depends on a variety of factors, especially: personal driving behaviour, selected route, weather conditions, usage of heating/cooling and preconditioning.
