BMW ConnectedDrive Driver Assistance systems in the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé.

DRIVING ASSIST.
The Driving Assist feature combines the Lane Departure Warning and Approach and Pedestrian Warning with the City Brake Activation camera-based systems.
The Lane Departure Warning detects lane markings and alerts the driver of an unintentional lane change at speeds above approx. 70 km/h by means of vibrations in the steering wheel and a visual warning in the instrument cluster. The warning is not activated when the lane change is deliberate, i.e. when the indicator is turned on.
While the Approach Warning with City Brake Activation detects vehicles, the Pedestrian Warning with City Brake Activation reacts to pedestrians. When there is a risk of collision, the Approach Warning triggers a two-stage warning. First, a symbol in the instrument cluster lights up, followed by an acoustic alarm. The Pedestrian Warning triggers a single-stage warning in the event of an acute risk of collision. If the system warns of a potential collision, the brakes are simultaneously preconditioned for a faster response. In the event of an emergency, the system applies the brakes.
BMW HEAD-UP DISPLAY.
The full colour BMW Head-Up Display (optional) projects relevant driving information directly into the driver’s line of vision (not fully visible with polarised sunglasses), allowing him or her to fully concentrate on driving.
Depending on the vehicle’s equipment, the display can also show the Speed Limit Info with no-overtaking indicator, ECO PRO tips, Check Control messages as well as information and warnings from the driver assistance systems. Frequently used functions such as telephone and entertainment services can also be displayed and operated.
The icons projected onto the windscreen are displayed in a particularly high resolution and full colour, with traffic symbols realistically reproduced. The image's projection appears as if it were 2.3 m in front of the vehicle. This in combination with optimal positioning allow the information to be read quickly, conveniently and with minimal distraction.
The brightness of the projection automatically adjusts to suit the external light conditions, while the height of the projection changes depending on whether it is day or night. The driver can also select which information to display in addition to current speed and the warnings from the driver assistance systems.
NAVIGATION SYSTEM PROFESSIONAL (STANDARD FOR 435i) WITH iDRIVE TOUCH CONTROLLER.
The Navigation System Professional features a sleek design and a superior range of services. This simple, easy-to-use and seamlessly integrated navigation system is operated via the iDrive system and features the iDrive Touch Controller.
It also includes the hands-free kit with USB interface and voice control, Radio BMW Professional with a DVD drive, as well as 20 GB memory for audio files. The built-in 8.8" LCD colour display with split screen function (main and supplementary screen) is designed for optimal readability and a clear overview.
The system can be operated intuitively using the iDrive Touch Controller, which enables the user to enter their destination by writing the address on its touch-sensitive surface. The navigation system can also be operated via the direct menu control buttons, eight functional bookmarks, or voice control system. Thanks to the three-dimensional map display that makes use of satellite images as a map background, with photo-realistic depictions of selected sights, navigation becomes an exciting visual experience. Depending on the equipment fitted, the user will also have access to ConnectedDrive Services, Remote Services, Concierge Services, the internet and Real Time Traffic Information.
Navigation System Professional.
SPEED LIMIT INFO.
Put safety first with Speed Limit Info(optional) including no-overtaking indicator shows the current speed limit in the instrument cluster, as well as information regarding no-overtaking zones.
This is shown on the Info Display in the instrument cluster or in the Head-Up Display. A special camera detects the relevant traffic signs. This information is processed by a control unit along with data from the navigation system. Features including the rain sensor are also incorporated, so variable speed limits in specific instances are also registered. For example, under wet conditions or at certain times of day. This means the driver will always be well informed about the road ahead. The Navigation System Business or Professional are required.
ACTIVE PROTECTION.
Active Protection(optional) is the BMW ConnectedDrive preventive passenger protection system. After the front seat belts are buckled, they are automatically pretensioned when the car starts moving.
If a critical situation arises on the road, the front seat belts are reversibly pretensioned and the side windows are closed (as is the sunroof, if there is one). With Comfort seats, the front passenger seat backrest is automatically returned to an upright position. A critical situation could include emergency braking, or if the car demonstrates excessive understeer or oversteer.
After certain kinds of accidents, the system is able to automatically apply the brakes and bring the car to a standstill. This helps reduce the likelihood of a second collision or even prevent one altogether.
In addition, the Attentiveness Assist feature monitors the driver’s behaviour for signs of fatigue. This system analyses the steering response and reacts to irregular driving behaviour by issuing a message in the Control Display suggesting the driver take a break.
Rear View camera
The Rear View camera allows the driver to view the area behind the car in the Control Display while manoeuvring and parking. The Rear View camera enhances visibility when reversing at speeds below 20 km/h, for example when parking. Interactive track lines indicate whether the chosen parking space is big enough for the car and provide assistance during parking by marking areas in colour on the Control Display. In conjunction with the trailer tow hitch, the Rear View camera makes the approach when hooking up a trailer easier with a practical zoom function.
Surround View
Surround View provides support when parking and manoeuvring in tight situations. The areas to the side and behind the vehicle are captured by cameras and shown in the Control Display from a bird’s-eye perspective (Top View).
Side View is also included, which makes approaching areas with limited visibility (e.g. blind intersections or exits) safer. Two digital cameras on the front left and right of the car film the traffic situation on either side and relay it to the Control Display. This enables early detection of oncoming traffic so that the driver can react appropriately.
PARKING ASSIST.
The Park Assist feature makes parallel parking easier. When the system is activated and the car is driving slowly (below 35 km/h), it will measure any parking spaces the car passes.
When a large enough gap has been found, the driver simply switches on the turn indicator and the Park Assist feature will do the steering, while the driver continues to operate the accelerator, gears and brakes. The system also emits acoustic signals and gives instructions in the Control Display. So the driver can stay relaxed and enjoy greater safety while parking.
