The South African Rugby Legends Association was founded in 2004 with two objectives in mind – player well being and grassroots rugby development under Vuka Rugby, across all communities and all geographic regions in South Africa.
SARLA active Legends touch the lives of 5000 youths every year. To date more than 16,000 boys and girls have played Vuka Rugby.
Under Vuka Rugby coaches and children are taught lifeskills. The programme aims to promote the development of self esteem, self worth and mutual respect within the methodology and practice of rugby coaching and training. 140 Coaches have to date been developed. In addition SARLA in partnership with SARU has credited 330 coaches many of whom have gone on to coach club and provincial teams.
