Safety in the BMW i8.

A safety concept has been developed for the BMW i8 which is perfectly tailored to the vehicle. The high-strength carbon passenger cell not only protects passengers, but also safeguards the high-voltage battery located between the two parts of the Drive module against external influences. Innovative BMW ConnectedDrive Driver Assist systems help the driver to remain aware of what’s going on around them and to react correctly in any given situation. If problems arise, a wide range of interconnected services ensure that you remain mobile at all times.

DRIVER ASSIST SYSTEMS.

The optional full colour BMW Head-Up Display transfers information relevant for driving directly into your field of vision and thus increases concentration at the wheel.
Depending on your vehicle equipment, this information may also feature details such as Speed Limit Info including no-overtaking indicator. What’s more you can also use it to show infotainment details such as information on radio stations and music tracks as well as telephone directory entries and call lists.
The symbols projected onto the windscreen appear in full colour with brilliant resolution so that traffic symbols are depicted realistically. The displays appear in a position that is especially ergonomically favourable on the windscreen, which you can adapt individually.
Projection intensity adapts automatically to the external lighting conditions; there are also different day and night displays.

The lithium-ion high-voltage battery joins the two sections of the Drive module and is thus ideally protected against outside influences. A specially developed heating and air conditioning system ensures as few temperature fluctuations as possible, which significantly increases the service life of the battery.

  • Battery Guard

    The Battery Guard supports you by monitoring the high-voltage battery of the vehicle and notifying you if a deviation from the planned charging procedure occurs or, for example, if the vehicle lights have been left on for too long. This means that an unwanted excessive discharge can be avoided. In the event of an accident, the high-voltage battery is automatically disconnected, thus ensuring no further unwanted energy can flow into the vehicle.
    The high-voltage battery of the BMW i8 carries a warranty for a period of 8 years or a distance of 100,000 km, whichever comes sooner.

ASSISTANCE SERVICES.

BMW creates innovative solutions for city e-mobility. Especially for all those drivers without their own charging options, they have access to flexible and time-saving parking and charging options in public car parks.

Thanks to networked BMW i Navigation with BMW ConnectedDrive, the BMW i3 knows where the nearest charging station is, indicates whether it is available – and incorporates it into your route, if necessary. So BMW i drivers can easily find one of the increasingly common public charging stations in the city and top up their battery.

  • Charging assist

    BMW i ConnectedDrive displays the current battery charge level and the remaining charging time till full charge via the BMW i Remote App and also in the BMW i8 itself. Not only charging times, but also the starting time for the air conditioning can be configured, so that the BMW i8 has an optimum interior temperature before the journey starts. If any problems occur during charging, the driver will automatically receive a message to this effect via the BMW i App, and via SMS or email for a critical battery charge level.

  • BMW TeleServices

    BMW TeleServices is a comprehensive package of customer services with which the BMW i8 is able to communicate with the driver or the BMW i Dealer directly, informing them of upcoming maintenance or necessary services and transferring the relevant data directly. The driver is automatically notified when a service appointment is due and is also able to contact the BMW i Dealer at any time and manually transfer the vehicle data. This allows any problems that may occur to be solved faster either directly via a phone call or at the premises of the BMW i Dealer.

  • Mobility assist

    Mobility assist ensures that you remain mobile even when your vehicle is being serviced or repaired. When you purchase a BMW i8, you are entitled to the comprehensive mobility package BMW i Mobile Care in the event of a breakdown. If any unforeseen events affect the vehicle or the charging infrastructure, this package provides expert advice by telephone and, if required, swift on-the-spot assistance.

For BMW i cars, special service packages are being developed that are optimally tailored to electric cars. These packages will be incorporated into the Motorplan offering you the excellence you have come to know and expect from BMW.


BMW i Motorplan


The assurance of quality.
Motorplan is standard on all BMW i vehicles and covers your BMW i for 5 years / 100,000kms. It covers the following:

Repair work to all major components, beyond the Standard New Vehicle Warranty.

• All maintenance and service work stipulated in the BMW customer service booklet
• All repairs and costs of parts from normal wear and tear which may occur when the manufacturer's warranty has already expired
• Battery warrantee for 8 years or 100,000 km
• All oils, brake fluids and other lubricants required during a service
• Vehicle mileage is checked and verified on the BMW i Motorplan system
• Access to 24-hour roadside assistance through BMW On Call

Aside from offering you comprehensive peace of mind relating to all aspects of your vehicle maintenance, BMW i Motorplan also includes these benefits:


• Re-routing facility of your BMW i to the approved BMW i Dealer in case of a breakdown.

BMW Motorplan excludes:


• All alterations, modifications, accessories, tyres, glass, soft-top canvas, and accident damage.
• Any repair work resulting from the owner′s negligence or abuse.
• Paint, body and trim repairs.
Renewal.
Your peace of mind does not have to come to the end of the road. BMW i Motorplan can be renewed up to 7 years/ 200 000 km, the most extensive option available. However your BMW Motorplan renewal must be taken up before the current one expires.
